English Language Arts: 

Writing: Scholars will learn to identify the protagonist, antagonist, and conflict of a narrative.

LiteratureThis week scholars will continue reading Robin Hood chapters 11-14. They will continue analyzing and memorizing The Tyger by William Blake.

Math:  This week scholars will continue our unit on multiplication, multiplying 2-digit numbers by 2-digit numbers. The test will be next week.

History:  This week students will learn about the Magna Carta, Parliament and developments that were greatly influential in the formation of the U.S. Government hundreds of years later.

English Language Arts: 

Writing: Book 2, Narrative 1: Lesson 1, Introducing Narrative

Literature: This week we will begin reading our next Classic to Keep, King Arthur! In Poetry we will continue learning “Lochinvar.”

Math: This week scholars will be introduced to prime and composite numbers, multiples, and begin to multiply 2-digit numbers by 1-digit numbers.

History:  In History this week, scholars will begin to learn about the fall of the Western Roman Empire, and will start a new unit focusing on Medieval Europe as they also begin to read King Arthur in Literature. 

Science: This week in Science, scholars will learn about the causes and effects of waves. They will also begin to learn about the different types of waves starting with the waves in water.

English Language Arts: 

Grammar: Scholars will write a letter home and review types of sentences and adverbs, with a quiz on Friday.

Literature: We will finish reading Prince Caspian and conclude our adventure with a unit assessment on Thursday. In Poetry we will continue to practice “Lochinvar.”

Math: Scholars will begin our unit on multiplication and division.

History: Scholars will complete our study of mountains and begin learning about Medieval Europe.

Science: Scholars will wrap up with energy and begin a new unit focusing on investigating waves.

 

Highlights:

Starting in September, students will begin going to the library every other week to check out one book at a time.  

Note: Your scholar needs to bring an independent reading book to school every day to use during dismissal. This is especially important if your scholar is picked up at Upper School because the expectation in the MPR is that scholars read silently.

Note: Your scholar needs to bring an independent reading book to school every day to use during dismissal. This is especially important if your scholar is picked up at Upper School because the expectation in the MPR is that scholars read silently. 

 

English Language Arts: This week we will continue reading Prince Caspian. In Poetry we will continue to practice “Lochinvar.”

Math: This week scholars will practice addition and subtraction word problems using a bar model to answer.

History: This week, the students will continue to learn about geography and location, and how geography influences patterns of settlement over time.

Science: This week, the students will continue to learn about different forms of energy. They will also learn about scientists such as Alexander Graham Bell, Nikola Tesla, Thomas Edison, and Samuel Morse and how they harnessed energy to meet people’s needs.  

 

Highlights:

Starting in September, students will begin going to the library every other week to check out one book at a time.  

We will begin testing Spalding words this week on Friday. Students will test on 20 words this week.

English Language Arts: This week in Poetry we will be reciting “The Violet” and beginning our next poem “Lochinvar.” In Literature, we are continuing with Prince Caspian. For writing, scholars will begin our intro into fables. Students will be practicing their manuscript/cursive writing.

Math: This week scholars will practice addition and subtraction in preparation for answering word problems using a bar model.

History: This week we wrap up our unit on maps and begin exploring mountains.

Science: We will continue to investigate different forms of energy, how they can change and help people.
